A widowed octogenarian. Her young, anxious carer. Three enigmatic cats. And a prophecy that will take them on a perilous journey; full of new experiences, new friends and a new path through the world they thought they knew.
The dark and unforgiving time of the Onslaught has descended on the world of Esothiea and a soul has been Chosen to seek out the Orb of Tilgh. An object of immeasurable power that will either save everyone, or send the world spiralling into desolation.
While heroes come in all shapes and sizes, this quest requires age and experience, and Florence James is just the woman for the job. Her feisty nature, resilient spirit and sense of humour are exactly what's needed - that and the fact that she's eighty-three years old.
Accompanied by her cautious carer, Quentin, who tries to keep her safe and medicated - and her three cats who are as mysterious as they are cute. Florence must traverse the world, facing many dangers to find the Orb before it's too late. Armed only with a pair of stabulous knitting needles and her trusty walking stick.

Complete. ONC 2021 entry. ONC Longlist and a Round II Ambassador's Pick! Exclusive to Wattpad. Ulthar is a cozy, sleepy town in the Dreamlands, close to the River Skai. It is a cobblestoned, gable-roofed town of pumpkin patches and a sizable population of cats. The only law is that you must never harm a cat, but the town is quiet and peaceful. Cats, humans, fish-people, and cosmic horrors live in unity. And really, the horrors are quite pleasant. Fourteen-year-old Eileen, who escaped the waking world, helps out at the chocolate shop and lives with her inventive adoptive mother, Cecilia Haunt. Besides the occasional cat, zoog, or animate pumpkin snatching the wares away, all is well. That is, until a mysterious eye statue appears in Ulthar. Every night, it moves to a different location. It's the sign of the Great Ones, who long ago left the dark palace of Kadath and went to the sunset city. Listless and hurt over the past, and desperate for an adventure to give herself a purpose, Eileen asserts that this is her chance to make a name for herself at the risk of her own safety and identity. A Querulous Quest
Book 1 of the series Tales of Strangeness and Charm Three mismatched adventurers set out on a journey that will prove to be far longer and stranger than any of them could possibly anticipate. Driven by a shared interest in an enigmatic device from beyond their world, their quest will forge and test friendships; encounter terrible foes and likely lead to rather a lot of whinging. Do not make the mistake of thinking that this is merely a children's book. It might appear to hold a simple, facile tale of foolish phantasmagoria, but appearances can be deceptive. Follow this story: To Witness Feats of Daring Do, and Quite a Few of Daring Don't The quest is important, except when it isn't, which is often. Despite frequent digressions into philosophical quandaries, unplanned doilies, and fights with fowl, there's sometimes still a faint glimmer of something important happening. This blend of action and absurdity offers readers a mix of excitement and humor. To Read Tales Layered Like a Palimpsest of Madness Each story is written over another, creating layers of hidden meanings that beg to be uncovered. This aspect appeals to readers who enjoy complex narratives that reveal new details upon rereading, adding depth to the experience. Because Grimmbros Is the Hero You Never Knew You Needed Follow Grimmbros as his finely tailored yellow tweed suit with an orange twill running through it gradually falls apart along with his patience with halflings. This characterization provides a relatable hero who embodies charm and frustration, engaging readers with his journey and growth.Complete
