The shapeshifter Aleena Technaren knows the rules, yes- stay out of that forest, that's where the mages choose their familiars. However, for some reason that doesn't stop her. And she finds herself in the predicament of becoming the familiar of the mage Caspain Thylan. Stuck together in their situation, they are forced to cooperate to find a way out.

For many of the I and E generation in the Americas and parts of Europe, it was something to avoid being taken by them to their world. Luck, choice, a possible spell in those claws, whatever you may think doesn't matter. A black dragon never misses its mark. With agility unsurpassed by the other types they're almost impossible to avoid. But these dragons didn't breathe fire, were a threat, nor in any way the size of a 747 max. All they had that was unique from other creatures was a highly evolved brain with the intelligence of a human and a heart of platinum. Note. Some creatures don't belong to me in any way. Are common because there are the mythical ones too. The flying creatures: the Hippogriffs, the Dragons, the Pegasus's, the Phoenixes, the Thunderbirds. The water creatures: the Sirens, the Mermaids, the Kelpies. The shapeshifting academy is kind of like Hogwarts with the letters and using owls for sending mail. Yes, there is a castle for the academy and no, there isn't any witch or wizards those are supposedly extinct. Now I have to go were going to find out what animal we shift into at the ceremony soon.
