Shapeshifters and mages have long been kept separate. The mages' practice of taming and keeping familiars often interfered with the shapeshifters in their animal forms.
The shapeshifter Aleena Technaren knows the rules, yes- stay out of that forest, that's where the mages choose their familiars. However, for some reason that doesn't stop her. And she finds herself in the predicament of becoming the familiar of the mage Caspain Thylan. Stuck together in their situation, they are forced to cooperate to find a way out.

Turns out we our from a family of shifters but, we would not know thy due to our parents dying when we were young and being adopted. The animal you shift into does not run in blood like people think. Yes, some family's lean more towards one animal but there are occasions where a member will shift into a different animal. It all depends on your personality. There are 22 types of animals you can shift into. Some are common and some are rare. Now we have the birds: the Ravens, the Eagles, the Vultures, and the Falcons. Then we have the felines: the Panthers, the Tigers, the Cougars, the Snow Leopards, the Cheetahs, and the Lions. Then we have our canines: the wolves, the foxes, the coyotes, and the hyena's. Are common because there are the mythical ones too. The flying creatures: the Hippogriffs, the Dragons, the Pegasus's, the Phoenixes, the Thunderbirds. The water creatures: the Sirens, the Mermaids, the Kelpies. The shapeshifting academy is kind of like Hogwarts with the letters and using owls for sending mail. Yes, there is a castle for the academy and no, there isn't any witch or wizards those are supposedly extinct. Now I have to go were going to find out what animal we shift into at the ceremony soon. Every year there is a festival celebrating the six elements called Springfall Festival, everyone has to go there. In the towns and cities are schools but one school by the name of Phandome Academy sits a little ways near Horn Castile any one would be very lucky to get an invite from that school, and I just happen to be one of them." Flow was an ordinary Water Spark she had an ordinary family and life but all that changed when she got a invite to Phandome Academy, there she learns skills and makes friends, sooner a rumor starts going around about a quest, Flow goes on that quest dragging her friends along. They took me to the hospital and saved my life." I say "What were your wounds?" He aks. "Nope my turn. What is this place?" I ask knowing I'm testing his patience but he is obviously boss here and I want answers. "My pack." He answers "your injuries?" I dont know how to answer that so I turn away from him. I dont know what hurt me only the marks it left. "Answer ME!" His words make me stiffen and I feel my hands reach for the bottom of my shirt. I slide it off and turn to the man. A stand there chest exposed. I'm boney from lack of food and bruised from my foster father and brother. Amid all the fresh brusing three white lines stand out stretching from my shoulder to my hip. "This is what they were healing!" I yell trying not to cry. I remember the pain of the marks when they were fresh. Feeling embarrassed I put my shirt back on. "Rouges." The man whispers.
