❝ The brambles rustled as Fern left Blue alone with the mouse she had caught. A branch snagged on his tail and ripped a tuft of fur off his tail.

Venom-hearted branches, Fern thought as he passed between two oaks. Bits of fur prickled along his spine. Is my instinct sensing something?

All of the sudden an earsplitting, bloodcurdling cry rang throughout the forest that could have been heard from the mountains.

Was that Blue? What had happened to her? Fern was rooted in his tracks, one paw raised to his chest.

He slowly looked over his shoulder to see . . . absolutely nothing. The great trees and thick undergrowth blocked all signs of life.

Fern didn't know where to go. Going back to camp and acting like nothing happened could result in more than serious consequences, and going back to check on Blue could meet him the same fate he believed Blue had met. ❞

"Who's out there?" One of the men yelled. Of course only silence met them. I remained quiet and waited for the group to start moving again. "Maybe it was just an animal." Someone whispered. The person, who I assumed was the captain of the small squad, signaled for them to walk again. They clearly showed fear as they kept going; brandishing their weapons to guard themselves with. "Two are holding lanterns. I'll tell you when you're too close to them." I heard my friend whisper in my ear. I followed the men as I picked up another branch and waited for the right time to break it. They continued to walk through the forest, turning their heads in every direction as if an animal might lunge at them and rip their throats out. I guess in a way I was going to do that. "Go back a few feet." My friend whispered. I carefully distanced myself from the group and waited. "Where is she?" I quickly snapped the stick as soon as he finished asking the question. They stopped and two soldiers raised their lanterns to shine its light in the darkness. I quickly hid behind a tree before both of them turned where I was. A low frustrated growl came from one of the men, "The girl's playing with us. She's out here following our every move." How paranoia can cloud the mind. At nine years old, Silver decided to leave her village for the forest. Since then, she's been hunted; everyday is a fight for her life, every breath she takes could be her last, but she's determined to stay alive. Her life isn't the kind anyone would want to live but she's managed to survive this long so, what's a few more years?

-Book One in the Adventures of the Prophesies Series- ''Did you know," a black she-cat with a long tail asked her mate in wonder, "that there were cats in the forest?" "Cats in the forest? Don't be ridiculous! I am just glad that our kits are not allowed outside yet" a tortoiseshell tom said. Suddenly there came a loud yell from inside the no-pelt den. Out came a small female chimera kit yelling "I FOUND IT!" Those three words made two other kits hop out of the bellcat entrance. The first kit to come out was a tom with cream and white fur, laughing. The last kit came out was a white she-cat with long tufts of fur in between her ears. Her underbelly fur and tail was just as long, and the fur was long on her long tail. "Dream, Oat, Cloud get back inside the no pelt den right this instant!" The tom yowled. "Oh Frances doesn't be so harsh on them." the she-cat purred. "But Lucy, you know as well as I do that they will want to follow me to my no-pelt's den, then your no-pelt will be so worried that it will forget about you and will look for the kits," Frances said. "You don't have to worry so much." Dream said, "We would not be able to hop on top of the fence!" "Speak for yourself!" her sister Cloud said as she hopped onto the fence. She gasped as she steadied herself and looked out on the world beyond the fence. It was right then and there that she knew that was where she belonged. It would mean leaving her family and life behind, but that was where she was going to go the day that the other no pelts came to look at her siblings. She would call that day as the day of Escape.
