Pittsburg Landing was a place at peace—one that never expected to be the site for one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. Peace is shattered as Confederate and Federal troops meet on the fields and farms surrounding a tiny Methodist church. In the midst of death and destruction, friendships form as four soldiers struggle to survive the battle.

Forced to leave his position as minister, Phillip Pearson knows his life is in danger, but not just from the Confederates. The Harper family, incensed at Pearson's refusal to bury a philandering son, has a vendetta against him that is played out on the battlefield.

Demoted from his command by a West Point graduate, Capt.Michael Greirson is forced to choose between ambition and duty. When a bumbling youth becomes his shadow, Private Robert Mitchell gains an unlikely friend—something that has been missing from his life. Afraid to trust, he is forced to confront those fears and depend on others in the heat of battle.

War is an adventure to Private Stephen Murdoch and his best friend, William Banks. For months they dream of the glory of war before volunteering together. On the eve of battle, they sense something momentous is about to happen. Their idealistic views fade in the blood of their fallen comrades.

Of the 40,000 Confederates and 30,000 Federals about to come face to face along the banks of the Tennessee River, these four soldiers will experience fear and questions of faith for what lies beyond. Two days of horrific fighting turn boys into men and sever the sacred bonds of comradeship in the bloodiest days of the war.

When a white policeman shoots an unarmed black teenager, the faith and strength of two families are shaken and a Midwest inner city community struggles with all-too-familiar tensions. The city's lead investigator strives to control escalating protests, a middle school teacher tries to calm her frightened students, and a pastor sees a rare opportunity for his community's voice to be heard. The victim's friend feels the prison walls of gang and drug-related violence closing in, and the officer suffers under a burden of guilt and shame. But the heaviest decision falls on average-Joe hospital technician George Washington, who finds himself--gun in hand--face to face with the man who killed his son. Background: In 2014, I completed my first National Novel Writing Month challenge--in November, I wrote a novel with 50,000 words. I published the book, but never promoted it. No one wants to pay for something with no idea what they're going to get. So I'm going to post preview chapters. All my books are available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle editions. What's this book about? When I first committed to writing a novel, I planned on doing one of my fantasy projects. But the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson and the resulting explosion of racial tensions dominated the news. What I saw online frustrated me. I knew that there was more to the story than any one side would likely present. Such complex issues aren't answered by sound bites and 140-character policy statements. I read up on aspects of culture I had no exposure to. I sought perspectives that wouldn't appear on my Facebook feed or regular web browsing. And I devoured some great books by Malcolm Gladwell that address human nature from an analytical angle using racial tensions and the civil rights movement as primary examples. I was amazed, moved, challenged, and inspired. And I knew that though I arguably have no right to say anything on the subject of racial tensions, I had to write this book.

Set in the era of the Civil War, Ann has always struggled with her position in life. Seen as a useless girl to her family, Ann tries to see better of herself but feels herself falling to her family's views. She feels like she can't do anything, especially when her older brother, Martin, is conscripted to the war effort, where Ann is sure he will die. In a whirlwind decision, she decides to disguise herself as a male soldier, impersonating Martin and going off to war. Florence is an African-American girl with a fire in her heart. She's gutsy, with enough bravado to put the mightiest warriors to shame. A long-time friend of Ann's, Florence knows how it feels to be looked down on. But she can feel her warrior's heart inside her, urging her to fight in the Civil War, to fight for the freedom of her people. Unleashed anger and frustration burn in her bloodstream, begging to be set free. But how can she fight, when she's just a girl? Hugh is a seemingly selfish, self-conceded Southern boy who has been conscripted to fight the North. As the war rages on, he struggles to choose a side, indecision tearing at him. He knows that while one choice might be morally right, he knows that choosing that side could rip him from the beliefs his family has instilled in him since the day he was born. In a brutal twist of fate, all three of their lives collide, when Hugh, Florence, and Ann meet each other on the bloody battlefield of Gettysburg. But will they put aside their prejudices for survival? Or will they let themselves be torn apart by the worries and doubt that cloud all their minds?

It's been a year since Elena Monroe, Daryl Dixon, and the rest of the group, alongside the Woodbury survivors, turned the Georgia correctional facility into a thriving community. It became a place of hope in a world of despair. But peace doesn't last. A deadly virus swept through the prison, killing many, and just as Rick and the group thought they had contained it, the Governor returned with a vengeance. His attack unleashed all-out war, and the prison fell. In the chaos, Elena, Daryl, and Beth escaped together, but they were left in the dark about the fate of the others. When Beth is taken by unknown captors, Daryl and Elena are devastated. Their search leads them to Rick, Michonne, and Carl on the train tracks, and together they make their way to Terminus, where a shocking discovery awaits. The horrors they face inside push the group to their limits, but they escape and find temporary refuge with Father Gabriel. Just as they begin to regroup, a clue to Beth's whereabouts emerges. Near Gabriel's church, Daryl and Elena spot the car that took her. Their pursuit leads them to Grady Memorial Hospital, where Beth is being held captive. But a scouting mission with Carol goes horribly wrong when Elena is injured in a collision with one of the hospital's vehicles. The officers take her inside, where she discovers Beth-but also uncovers a sinister truth. Elena's blood doesn't show the dormant virus that lies within everyone else. When Rick begins planning their rescue with the help of Noah, a young man who escaped the hospital, Daryl grows impatient. Consumed by desperation, he disregards the plan and storms the hospital alone. Now, Daryl faces an impossible choice: Will he leave the girl he sees as a daughter for the greater good, or will he risk everything-and everyone-to save her? Bound by Blood is a story of sacrifice, loyalty, and the limits of love in a world that takes everything. How Far will Daryl Dixon Go to Protect His Found Daughter?
