Blaine's Opportunity
TRIGGER WARNING ⚠️ MENTIONS OF Rape, family abuse and suicidal thoughts. Do not read if this may trigger you. The story isn't all depressing but there are certain family situations brought up. It's a good read, enjoy. "It's ok, Blaine. I promise." I whispered into her ear. Her strong arms wrapped me so tightly. I felt so warm and safe... it's weird how calm everything felt in this moment. I hear her sniffle. "I... don't wanna go back." She whispered. I rubbed her back. "You don't have to if you don't want to I promise. You can stay as long as you want." I whispered back. ------ Blaine Jarome was known for the attitude and anger issues. She was considered a problem child in her school, aggressive at work and in and out the hospital for injuries she never explained how she got. She only had two friends who always worried about her and she lived with two drug addicted foster parents that bought drugs from her. She's nineteen trying to finish her second last year of high school. No one dared to even intervene when she was mad... but the new girl? Well let's just say a big heart goes a long way. ONC 2024: In college, it was a case of wrong place/wrong time. Eight years later, they have a second chance. But will they take the leap? ___ Prompt 14: "My muse, believe me, waiting for you has been a form of freedom." ___ Excerpt: "Don't look back." Ian stares at me through the screen with his dark, intense gaze. "Don't long for all the things that might have been. Don't chastise yourself for the decisions you've made." For a moment, his words render me silent. "Appreciate all those little indentations that make you who you are," he says with a tender expression. "And remember your superpower." "What superpower?" "Let yourself dream again." A tender smile crosses his features. "Focus that intense drive of yours on the future like you used to do." He's right. For so long, I've been living in survival mode. One foot in front of the other. Stuck in this nightmare, I haven't been able to see any other way forward. Until now. "You're free now," he says, "to make better choices that will make you truly happy." For a moment, I let my mind take me wherever it wants to go. Right now? It wants to be in Boston, beside him. For the booksmart yet naïve 16-year-old Nicky, high school in her quaint little hometown island in the Philippines had always been predictable. Until that senior year. Nicky thought she got things all figured out. She'd be very good at school and be the valedictorian of the single-section class of 2010 of the highly looked-up science high school in their island. And then, she'd get a full scholarship to her dream university. All was fairly well except for a few things like grappling her feelings towards a long-time crush. Just when Nicky thought she could get through high school without too much boy-drama, a somewhat seemingly love life with a boy or two and suddenly, maybe even three was finally catching up with her during the last few months before high school graduation. She had never thought she could be wrong about a person. And that she could always be wrong about boys... ✨✨✨ Sidenote: I wrote this from November 2010 to April 2011, only a year ahead from the time set in the novel. He happily watched as the seeds flew in the breeze surrounding them. "Why did you do that?" Dream asked. "I made a wish. I make wishes all the time and I just remembered one." He happily explained. "Can I make a wish too?" Dream asked. He knew, it wasn't real but it seemed fun. When Dream buys a little dandelion-shaped ornament on a garage sale, he starts having weird dreams which he never experienced before. What could be the reason behind that happening?
