Niaomi Douglas's life is a constant struggle. A struggle to keep her brother safe from their father, a struggle to stay out of way of the gangs at school, a struggle to stop hearing the voices in her head. Only one thing makes it all bearable: her knife.
Then she meets Nicholas Williams, whose too kind, too sincere, and too perfect to be hers. His touch is the only thing that can offer a substitute for her knife, and he seems just as interested in her as she refuses to be with him.
But his own life - and goals - are not as perfect as he appears to be. And with both of their bitter pasts haunting them, Niaomi and Nicholas will be forced to rise above the tide of their sorrows lest they drown within them.
