"To you I'm nothing more than a fox like a hundred other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you'll be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world."
~ Le Petit Prince

The air seemed to chill a lot more now and tiny flakes of snow begun to fall. The clouds seemed to twist and the winds sped up a notch, I felt goosebumps rise up my arms and neck. I shivered, a blizzard was obviously brewing and my horse was nowhere.

I sped up my pace but paused immediately. Standing in the snow beside an old withered cherry tree was a dazzling red fox, his eyes closed and enjoying the cool snow falling over his fur and onto his nose.

I made a low whistle, Foxes aren't stupid but but cool enough to run away once startled. Unlike wolves and Tigers.

His glowing beautiful Amber eyes pierced through mine, almost forming a glare like I had interrupted him. He begun to slowly approach me, but one thing I noticed.

A trail of blood followed him.

I shuddered. It had never been so dark, nor so quiet before. There was always the light of the moon to guide me. The sound of the wind against the trees. I shook the thought from my mind and continued further into the wood. Then I saw it. A white light spread across the ground in front of me. The clouds had parted from where they were, revealing the moon at its fullest. I stared in awe. It had never been so bright. The ambiance began to come back. The wind began to dance with the trees. I closed my eyes. The scent of oak filled my nose and exhaled through my mouth. The aroma filled me with exhilaration. It filled me with something I couldn't explain. I felt something I hadn't felt in a long time. Although it was something I wasn't used to feeling, I craved it deeply. I felt happy. I felt as if nothing else mattered than this moment. I opened my eyes. Everything seemed clearer. I could see the particles of dust flying in the beam of light that shone around me. I wanted to stay here for longer. I wanted this moment to last forever. Until I saw the wolf. It was hidden among the fold of trees behind me. It stared at me in aggravation. It's brows furrowed in my direction. It's face, livid with anger, revealed a set of unpleasant and sharp teeth. It began to move slightly forward. The wolf bounded towards me. It happened so quickly I had no time to react. It's limbs outstretched. It's teeth bared. My body, paralyzed from fear, refused to move. My lip quivered, urged to call for help, but no help would come. I was too deep into the woods. No one would hear my screams. The thought was soon interrupted by the wolf's teeth digging into my side.

The white fox will destroy the werewolf world. It's a legend that every wolf knows. We never hunt white foxes for fear it will be the one in the legend. If a white fox burrows in your territory, it's a sign of bad luck. We all run from white foxes. We were told as pups that if we were bad, the white fox would come to our pack, and the next day, our pack would have never existed. There are laws from the elders that if we find the white fox (not that anyone wants to or will), we were to hand it over immediately. We were not to engage in conversation with it or interact with it at all. So we never expected her to come so peacefully... | "What do you want from me?" I exclaimed. He stopped walking and laughed. "You stupid fuck. I want you to stop fighting me. I want you to shut up and do what I say." He grabbed me again. My muscles tensed and I tasted blood in my mouth. My pupils were dilated. He dragged me to the kitchen again and grabbed my cup that was still on the table. "Drink. It." I grabbed the glass and took a sip. His nose crinkled. "No. Down it. Drink the whole thing." I down it and coughed again. It was so bitter and I recoiled. My head spun and I felt like I was going to throw up. I held my head and closed my eyes. The world spun so much faster when I closed my eyes. He held me under my chin. "Listen. You pissed off a powerful man while you were gone. He wants you and I'm not giving you without a price. So next week, after the paperwork is filled out, you're gonna be good. Or I'll lower that price. Do you understand?" I nodded my head as best I could but it made me even dizzier. He let go of my chin and I felt myself falling. "Now you haven't drank that much. Don't tell me you're out for the count. I haven't even gotten started with you." he grabbed a bottle of beer and handed it to me. I almost dropped it but managed to grab the bottle by the neck right before it left my hand. "Drink." I tried to look away, but before I could, his hand reached out, his fingers brushing against my skin as he gently lifted my chin. The touch was soft, but the way he held me in place was anything but gentle. "Do not take my cooperation as weakness, little lamb," he warned, his voice thick with something darker, something dangerous. His gaze bore into mine with an unyielding force, as if daring me to challenge him. I felt the tension coil in my body, and with a sharp, instinctive movement, I smacked his hand away, my pulse quickening, my breath uneven. "Touch me again, and this 'little lamb' will bite your fingers off," I shot back, my voice low and daring, laced with a fire I hadn't meant to show. His lips curled into a dark chuckle, the sound rich and slow, like honey dripping from his tongue. "If you were anyone else," he said dismissively, his gaze trailing over me with casual disregard, "you would have already been dead." ********** For generations, Maeli's people have been trapped within a never-ending forest, bound to a secluded clearing that no one can enter or escape. "Who's out there?" One of the men yelled. Of course only silence met them. I remained quiet and waited for the group to start moving again. "Maybe it was just an animal." Someone whispered. The person, who I assumed was the captain of the small squad, signaled for them to walk again. They clearly showed fear as they kept going; brandishing their weapons to guard themselves with. "Two are holding lanterns. I'll tell you when you're too close to them." I heard my friend whisper in my ear. I followed the men as I picked up another branch and waited for the right time to break it. They continued to walk through the forest, turning their heads in every direction as if an animal might lunge at them and rip their throats out. I guess in a way I was going to do that. "Go back a few feet." My friend whispered. I carefully distanced myself from the group and waited. "Where is she?" I quickly snapped the stick as soon as he finished asking the question. They stopped and two soldiers raised their lanterns to shine its light in the darkness. I quickly hid behind a tree before both of them turned where I was. A low frustrated growl came from one of the men, "The girl's playing with us. She's out here following our every move." How paranoia can cloud the mind. At nine years old, Silver decided to leave her village for the forest. Since then, she's been hunted; everyday is a fight for her life, every breath she takes could be her last, but she's determined to stay alive. Her life isn't the kind anyone would want to live but she's managed to survive this long so, what's a few more years?
