Life is hard for Esther Winter. Ironically, winter is her favourite season, for all the wrong reasons. Her only friends, Ivy, Coral and Austin are increasingly concerned about her, for reasons which have always been there. Esther believes that nothing is wrong, and there is nothing to be concerned about. Unwillingly, the three friends have to accept it, although Coral suspects something more worrying is waiting just around the corner. There is one thing they all have in common; they believe you don’t grow up, your skin fades, meaning all your secrets and beliefs are no longer opaque - they are transparent. People can see through them and they can choose to accept them or not. Most people call this ‘growing up’. Control slips out of Esther’s hands and she soon becomes tangled in a disorder no one saw coming, except for Ivy, Coral and Austin. Everyone around her is trying to save her, but Esther doesn’t know why. Their lives suddenly take a turn and they all have to work out the cause. No one knows the cause; not even Esther.
