Until her parents die in a shipwreck on their way to the Caribbean. Jessica in taken to her aunt's house, she is expecting them to take care of her, but she is wrong. 

They abuse her and starve her, they do unspeakable thing to her. And worst of all, Jessica's aunt and uncle have a horrifying secret. A secret, that will change Jessica's life forever; or possibly end it...All Rights Reserved

She simply waits for everything to get better, after all what's the point in trying when the world will do whatever they can to drag you down. Her only escape from this twisted reality is a creature named Shadow. A terrifying creature that is somehow more humane than the so-called humans around her. Shadow could easily take all her problems away, but Melody refuses to take the easy way out. That is, until she just couldn't take it anymore, she takes Shadow's offer and soon her life got better. Her bullies started disappearing, showing up dead in the woods. Their bodies badly mutilated, almost unrecognizable. Life at school started getting better, she finally had human friends and even a boyfriend. Her "father" was found dead at her house. The torture had finally ended. Unfortunately this story doesn't have a happy ending, after all karma always strikes back.

The islands wildlife think of folks as easy prey, and now hunt them for food. The ghouls must learn to survive, and ovid the slashers and creatures that call the island home.
