Since Paul's father had died years before, Paul had to adjust to life in a new city with his mother. Paul was in JSS 1 and started the second term at a new school.

Paul's mother took him to John Felix Academy the very next day without hesitation. She paid the school fees, as well as fees for his uniform, sports wear, and books.
