Author's Note: I've been rereading this as I post it because I actually wrote it two or three years ago, and the first three chapters really don't reflect the overall tone. If you can get past them, the rest is (in my opinion) really funny.

Rory Pennell is the mayor's daughter in a city of superheroes and villains, the perfect gig for kidnappings and ransom notes. She fits the part perfectly, right down to being the girlfriend of town hero Stariet, who everyone loves, except for Rory herself. Year after year, she's been kidnapped time and time again- and she's getting sick of it.

When she's kidnapped from a party hosted by her father, Rory finds herself not with a deranged killer, but with someone who hates Stariet as much as she does. Her new and surprising allies, Felix, a talented telepathic inventor, and Greg, a sentient lizard, are happy together, living quietly just outside of town in an underground bunker.

But Stariet is still on watch for any sign of her missing girlfriend and her latest kidnappers. And she wouldn't dream of letting Rory go without a fight.

With their lives together at stake, will Felix and Rory be willing to risk it all?

The Boy Who Read Minds ✔️

70 parts Complete

Highest rank: #1 in Teen-Fiction and sci-fi romance, #1 mindreader, #2 humor Aaron's special power might just be the coolest- or scariest- thing ever! It's always helped with his bad-boy reputation, his rightfully arrogant all-knowing intimidation seemed to go a long way with his love life and somehow also his education. Until he met Violet, one of the smartest girls in school; a girl he's been using for years, zoning in on her mind to ultimately cheat on exams and steal the title of valedictorian. Until one day, Violet failed him. Her mind wandered all over the place- her parent's divorce, her breakup, and he couldn't help but sympathize. But Violet's a smart girl, who knows how long it'll take before she finds out. Aaron depends so much on his mind-reading capabilities that when they suddenly disappear- so does everything he hasn't worked for. His secret was like Samson and his hair, once it's told, the magic's all gone.
