Princess Lyra Beaumont lives in a kingdom where music is forbidden. A single note results in death. Those were the rules set long ago, and they have never been broken since.

Even with this death sentence, she secretly plays her Viola in a room long forgotten, and Lyra's golden eyes mark her as a Symphonium. Her Viola has the power to create the worlds of the pieces she plays.

When a new evil  threatens to bring havoc onto her kingdom, she must journey into a new world and find a talisman that cannot be found. But the world is closing up-fast, and if she doesn't find it in time, the gates will close and she will be trapped.
