Being the ugly black woman is a poetry book about overcoming past scars that lock you down. It's about embracing yourself as a woman of color and a human being. Realizing yourself as a person of power, confidence and also your weaknesses.finding your own voice even in your own fears.

Her skin so dark 
as the ground, we walk upon
her hair so wild and strong
almost holding its own personality
Her eyes brown and wide 
carrying her own curiosity 
her pride pushed down and trampled on, 
her smile so bright 
hiding away a thousand generations 
of pain and tears 
and her heart cries a silent song

"All I had wanted was to attend this sick college party, when my best friend Ethan and his twin-sister Dakota persuaded me to watch them bring Elvis back to life. What I got instead is a girl from the 40's "How did I end up here?" She threw in. "Good question!" I nodded, pointing at her. "That snoring guy right there invented a 'life-serum' and he intended to bring Elvis Presley back to life, but then an accident occured and, well, you were there," I explained. "Don't worry, I was an accident too." She started laughing, and it instantly brought a smile to my lips."
