Stella Rae, the pretty popular girl, is dating Kyle, the emo kid. Her life is about to be flipped upside down. Her friends play a mean trick on Kyle and he almost kills himself. She disowns her friends and joins Kyle's social group. She is completely unaware of their social norms and how they all live their lives with depression. She can't tell who she is because she was faking it around the populars.
