I was fine. 'Was' being the operative word. See, I was fine, until someone up in that sky, whoevers in charge of our stupid little lives, decided 'hey, see that girl? McKenzie Hill? Lets take away her dad, her bestfriend, and all the happiness in her life!' I was fine. Until that night, when Lauren, my dad and I were on a walk. When suddenly, a guy with a gun jumped out of a bush and shot two bullets, just two. I don't know why he chose to kill them over me. But he chose them, and I feel as guilty as ever. Then of course, my mom decided to blame me for dads death, and Laurens parents decided to blame me for her death. Then, my mom started drinking alcohol, and taking drugs.

Shortly after that, she began abusing me. Physically. Mentally. Thankfully, there was no sexual abuse. Talk about incest. All I could do, and all I did, was believe that I deserved it, that it was my fault that two lives were gone. Mine. My fault. People would ask me if I was okay, my answer was always "I'm fine." The truth is still "I was fine." Eventually my neighbor, Alice, realized what was going on and informed the authorities. Today, I'm moving in with my 19 year old brother, Troy, and his girl friend, Leigh-Anne. Maybe, finally, my truth will change form 'I was fine' to 'I am fine'. Maybe.
