In the autumn of 1831, Cosette and Sybill Fauchelevent arrive with their father to a quiet house in the quiet French town of Saint-Michele.

Both of the girls experienced traumatic events in their childhood years that shaped their attitudes towards the future yet the personalities of the adoptive siblings are oh so different.

Everything changes when they are quite literally dragged to the Café Musain where they meet a group of young men who are determined to change the world. The girls capture the attention of a few certain individuals resulting in a few friendships...and more. However, problems arise when Sybill and the leader get into many heated debates about the progress of the nation. To assuage her anger, Sybill begins to write in secret a series of essays pamphlets about the revolution under a male's name which her father publishes for her in secret at the printing press. The pamphlets become the talk of small town especially around the revolutionaries much to her surprise.

How do the girls react to the boys' plans? Will they have to flee to England with their father as was the original plan? Will the revolution succeed? How does Sybill fare with writing and arguing with the stubborn leader? Will they ever discover that a female is the one behind the heated essays about the overthrow of monarchy? And why is the leader someone who seems so familiar to the girl?

Featured on @HistoricalFiction @NARomance 🥇2023 Rose Gold Awards 🥇Literary Book Awards Story of Edith&Andre: "O'Lady Liberty divine! For thee alone, my life I'd resign: I beseech all to carve thy name so fair, On my tombstone, for all to stare." "This is a love poem for me?" Edith couldn't help muttering resignedly. But what else could she do? Her lover was a stoic little leader! Every time she complained that he was always working tirelessly, Andre would smile and whisper in her ear, "Have you not heard? 'A revolutionary only finds rest in his grave'." It seemed like an ominous omen when he ultimately had neither a grave nor a tombstone. The only thing Andre left her was a small notebook with a red cover. The front page was inscribed with neatly written words: Love, Compassion, Liberty. The final pages remained blank, but at the very end was a small line of pencil writing, already smudged and faded. Each letter was bold and alive, revealing the profound happiness and fervor of the writer: "Liberty is the right to love and to be loved." Story of Fiona: Little Fiona always thought that she lived in a world entirely separated from those wealthy girls, until this barefooted waif became a little Marchioness overnight. She had two fathers, one grand and handsome like a god, the other short and frail like a reed. They believed in completely different philosophies - the latter left her mired in poverty and shame, while the former pulled her into a heaven full of dignity and glory. Fiona chose one and abandoned the other. She felt she lacked nothing: beauty, wealth, honour, and love. Until she met that angel in the scarlet dress again. A century later, the old soldier who ended Fiona's life recalled her in his memoir: "I felt that old lady was a blaze of fire. I aimed at her, shot, and she fell. But bullets could never snuff out flames." What romantic entanglements will fate weave for these noble souls?

{Wattys 2018 Winner - The Contemporaries} Versailles, France 1789: Where the only things more prevalent than opulence and wealth, are secrets. At the dawn of the French Revolution, Paris is divided. In the glittering palace of Versailles, courtiers party without a care in the world, but in the city, people must fight to stay alive. Eighteen-year-old courtier Gabriel de la Marche is part of both worlds. When Gabriel was fourteen, his older sister went missing, and desperation for answers led him to strike a deal with an underground organization of assassins-they would use their connections to help Gabriel find his sister, if Gabriel agreed to kill members of nobility under the alias L'Ange de la Mort. Four years later, he still hasn't found his sister, and the repercussions of his decision are catching up with him. But he fears it might be too late to turn back now. The daughter of a French mother and a wealthy English earl, Lizabeth survived in the womb when her twin brother did not. Believed by her family to be cursed, she has grown up shamed and unloved, locked away in her father's estate. That is, until Lizabeth's mother strikes a deal of her own. If Lizabeth travels to Versailles and kills L'Ange de la Mort, she'll be granted her freedom. At the palace, Gabriel and Lizabeth fall headfirst into love, neither of them knowing the other's secret. ------ "It's either the kiss or the revolution" Paris, France, spring of 1832 Victorie is like a friendly shadow at Café Musain. A girl who always welcomes the guests with a warm smile never thinks twice before helping Madame Hucheloup and brings snacks for the always hungry boys, hidden in the back room. To them, she's only a girl who works at the Café, a girl who is always there to linger around and listen to their meetings, criticize their opinions and to make sure they go home before three in the morning. Enjolras has always been annoyed by her presence, but never denied her entrance to the back room, partially because feared angering the boys and Madame Hucheloup who all seemed to adore this simple girl, but also because he always found himself unable to utter a reasonable sounding world in a conversation with her. With the impending revolution, the leader of Les Amis de l'ABC has no time to think about the irrelevant girl. Courfeyrac, their best friend. The centre of the group. He's always there to support his friends, to tell a joke or two and to mend everyone's problems. Can it be that he is not all he seems to be? What happens when the glue that holds everything together begins to break? Could the group survive without its joining factor? The choices to make are not going to be easy... One is known...
