Alyssa Hayford has been alone her whole life, her parents died in a tragic fire when she was only 4 years old. From previous ordeals, Alyssa is scared to talk and very rarely does. That makes it very hard for a child to be adopted. Each time she gets adopted, she wishes it will be forever but it never is. Alyc is nearly 15 now and she has stopped wishing. Wishes don't come true. At least, not for her.
But, when Alyssa gets adopted by Simon Lane, her life gets turned upside-down. She meets some amazing people, but, when her uncle, Colin, wants custody of her, after getting out of jail, it all takes a turn for the worst, and people get hurt...
