In a response to the Sci fi Challenge "Starting Anew"
This is the time where many search for a fresh start, a new beginning. It's a time for renewal. We've all experienced this in one way or another. It could be watching a friend or family member, or perhaps we've needed a recharge ourselves. Today however, our goal is too witness this from the perspective of science... mad science to be more precise.
Your challenge is simple. Write a 1000 word story that explains how a mad scientist might look to start anew. Oh, but don't think we wouldn't throw in a wrench. Your story must include three of the five quotes listed below:
1. "They think I'm a fool - I'll show them I'm a brilliant crazy fool!"
2. "IT'S ALIVE! Oh wait sorry, it's just gas"8 a
3. "Stand back! We wouldn't want that 'hair' to catch fire...again."
4. "You need madness in order to achieve greatness."
5. "One cannot simply turn a wrench and create life. There must be chocolate."

As an optimistic person, I've always believed that I am destined for great things. Turns out one of those "great things" would include moving into a house filled with men (or boys, you be the judge) blessed with freakish powers that are beyond human nature. Second would be to find myself enjoying the presence of a moody, intelligent scientist (or was it engineer? No idea!) who'd spend his days building robots and suits. Completed! #1 in government conspiracy as of 10/19/18 #6 in outbreak as of 10/10/18 #7 in corruption as of 8/12/18 #62 in apocalypse as of 8/7/18 #11 in government as of 8/9/18 The year is 2213. Everyone was evacuated from the home planet over 150 years ago. Our planet was dying, it was only a matter of time before our race was wiped out. We now live on a synthetic planet designed and built by our ancestors who came together from all parts of the globe to devise a plan to save us. We have lived peacefully for over a century.. Until now. Our lives were threatened when a mysterious and deadly virus broke out, killing entire communities at a time. The council says that they have a plan; they said that in order to prevent the death of more innocent people they will test every man, woman, and child for signs of the virus. Any person found to have been infected will be quarantined, the ones who die will be given a proper burial while the ones who survive are deemed carriers and are to be sent to the home planet to prevent further outbreak. I was prepared for the people I know and some I love being taken away for the greater good, but I never would have expected that among the list of people being taken from my community, that I would be one of them.. I survived the quarantine. Now for the survival of my planet I, and the other Carriers must be sent to the home planet. I'm going back to Earth. (This is not based on The 100 but there are similarities.) (Some violent themes, but other than that is entirely clean.) Please comment if you have any questions or concerns. {COMPLETED} "now that you've had your fun electrocuting me, would you care to hop in the backseat?" ---------------------------------------------------------- Freak DNA. That's what I like to call it. The fault to my genetic code. More often than not, it's a curse. The static running through my blood gave me a name. A cruel, daunting label of a measly bug. A roach. That's what I am to them, to the government. Roach; the nameless monster with electricity for a sense and lightening as a second nature. It ruined my life, the sparking currents playing tag in my mind, running around and bumping into everything, shaking me loose. The government, actually. They ruined my life. My curse just gave them a reason. You see, the normal population with ordinary DNA, they don't know about the people like me. The roaches of the world. We don't get that kind of recognition at the camps. There, we are only one thing in the military's eyes. We are weapons and we will act like it. Everyone else out there, bathing in the goodness they don't know they've got, they don't know about the roaches their stepping on. As long as their getting closer to the sky, they don't care what they stand on to reach it. They don't know about the sparkling dreamer that's killed 7 people before her 17th birthday. They don't about the ghost of a girl peaking around corners for her entire life because even home wasn't safe. They don't know about the fighter of steel and iron sucking on his bloody lip courtesy of the wars he battles in as nothing but a shadow. They don't know about the masked villain who would do anything to see the army they lead claim the throne They don't know about us. But they will, because we will rise. "Okay I'll give you three seconds then I'll shoot if you don't start talking." "Fine, fine, fine, shit, calm down, would ya? Jeez." Kayn shakes his head and walks back to the couch. He throws himself down and relaxes while his legs are resting on the coffee table. "You humans are so grumpy," Kayn complains. "Are you human?" I ask. "So many questions, I don't even get a chance at answering to them. On top of that, you're stressing me out with that revolver. I can't handle this situation, Gianna." I walk closer to him, a little baffled by his calm, joyful, teasing, attitude. "I'll put it down," I start and sit down on the floor. "But if you don't talk, I won't think twice on shooting this time." Well, as ordinary as it gets for someone who's spent her life behind the gates of a classified facility. Gianna isn't fond of her father's experiments but she doesn't know how to stop him. Mr. Clermont is a persuasive man. This is until the enchanting man called Kayn shows up at the facility, claiming he's from the near galaxy called Andromeda. Kayn starts to share one too many secrets about the death of Gianna's mother. To then give her a proposition, a favor for a favor, that might change the world we live in forever. Elodie's life changes at the turn of a doorknob when she is forced into joining a secret organization that claims to be protecting the Earth from aliens. When a mysterious death occurs, revealing a well-concealed secret, things quickly go downhill as humanity's future is placed on the shoulders of a single gaggle of teenagers. *** I hear a sigh from the other side of the door, "Miss. Chaucer, you have a wonderful opportunity here, are you going to take it or not?" Now, I am seriously confused, "Opportunity?" She takes advantage of my befuddled state and shoves the door open. Shit. The corners of her mouth pull up, and it's so unnatural, it takes me a moment to realize she's smiling. Major plastic surgery? Probably. Click. Did she just lock the door? She locked the door! I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on.
