If you asked Bex what her biggest fear is, she would say it’s being alone. But she hasn’t had to worry about that a day in her life. She’s always had her best friend, Nate, to protect her. He is her knight in shining armor, her security blanket. He makes her feel safe. Of course, she’s in love with him. How could she not be? Enter Carter Sullivan—the boy who is everything Bex is not. He’s outgoing, confident, fearless…and to Bex’s surprise, completely in love with her. The worst part is, Bex starts to feel something for him, too. But along with her many other fears, she is also afraid of change. She’s loved Nate her whole life, and that’s not something she can let go of easily. And then, Bex’s worst nightmare becomes a reality when Nate slips into a coma, due to a brain tumor. No one saw it coming. Not Nate, and especially not Bex. Completely thrown and utterly lost, Bex crawls into the far recesses of her mind, fearing the worst—Nate is going to die. Anxiety shakes her to her core. She can’t go a single day without having a panic attack, and she can’t tell which is worse—losing him, or losing herself. And who is there to save her? You guessed it—Carter. But Bex isn’t sure she can trust him. She isn’t sure she can trust anyone. She’s already lost her mind. Is she really ready to offer up her heart? Carter can give her things she’s never had before, things she’s never felt before, but she can’t help but feel she’ll be betraying her best friend if she opens her heart to someone else, and gives herself the room to love and grow that she never had with Nate. Maybe what she thought was the best part of her was perhaps the worst.
