Avery Daniels has waited years for her mate. After a trip to New York looking for him, and no use, she goes on a run to free her wolf for a bit. But what she's been looking for is lurking in the bushes, and Avery is beyond shocked when he's not a pure blood, and he's making no move to claim her. Everest Black is half wizard, half wolf. Receiving verbal and physical abuse from his father all his life impacted him. Badly. Now, with a four year old son under his wing and no optimism left, finding his mate is the last thing on his mind. "I really had you pegged as a brainiac." A husky voice sounds from behind me, sending shivers up my spine. Electricity crackles in the air between us and I sit completely still, coffee in hand and book open in front of me. "Yet you're researching my history, so you can't be. I mean, wizardry is common knowledge, is it not?" my eyes flick to the side, where he is pulling up a chair next to me. I watch him fold his hands in his lap cockily and lean back against the wooden chair, causing it to cry out under his weight.

"When will you accept me?'' Lucian murmured against my skin. The wonderful feeling only grew as he stepped closer, the thick muscles between our layers of clothing pressing against my back. He dipped his head. I could feel his lips against my ear when he spoke. "When, Victoria? I am tired of fighting with you. I know you want me just as much as I want you. Admit it." I couldn't. "Admit it, Victoria!'' Lucian's voice went deep when he raised it. Goosebumps prickled my entire body as he whirled me around so that we were face-to-face. I exhaled softly, hating the dominant position he had over me. Lucian wretched my chin up. His eyes were burning with a lustful smolder. "No." Oh, I would definitely get myself killed tonight. I knew my defiance was angering him further but saying I wanted Lucian would mean I was accepting defeat. And I didn't do that. Love was a game and I was determined to win it.
