To Be A Hero
Book 4 in the To Be A Runner series. If you have not read books 1, 2 or 3, I seriously suggest you do before continuing in order to avoid confusion. It's been almost nine months since the world was saved from eternal happiness, but the world is still in danger. The dead still walk and we are still far from finding a cure. But we are still discovering new things. Veronica's hard at work, and with Abel teaming up with the Ministry nothing should be able to stop us. At least, that's what I thought. But there are things we still don't understand, things I'm not sure I want to understand, like the voices in my head, like the zombies that can almost talk and are what Veronica likes to call 'Sentient Type Zombies'. There are things that I'm facing that I'd rather just forget-things I'd rather not know about... But I can't be that way. I can't back down-not from the A.M.T.B., not from the voices in my head, and not from the overwhelming feelings that clog my throat and make it almost impossible to breathe whenever I see- No, feelings are not important now, not when a cure is available, not when he's busy worrying about his baby that's due to arrive and the fact that Paula's getting sicker and... I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on. So, call me stupid, but I sit down. "I am from a space organization that protects civilians from . . . outside threats." *** Beautiful cover made by @mahana258!
