"Adam" is a fictional story which shadows the life of an average nine-to-five mid-twenties man. Adam is an average guy with an average job, seemingly more distressed at the prospects of running out of opportunities and running out of years than anybody around him. He has followed the unwritten schedule to date of what is expected of a person in a modern day democracy. That's just the problem. He is another drop in the ocean never to be remembered for anything. The irony of being considered 'broken' for wanting to live a life beyond the norm has not averted Adam. The culmination of his feelings, or lack thereof for that matter, is released on a co-worker which starts Adam on a journey to find something in life that could actually make him feel alive. With this revelation he begins to realise just how thinly layered the expected conducts and etiquette of modern-day society are layered. Clawing his way in no particular direction he is looking for something more. He doesn't know what. He doesn't know where. Nonetheless it has occurred to him;
Adam cannot remember the last time he was overwhelmed.......

"You have no idea how badly I want to make love to you," he responds with a shake of his head. "I love you so much," he continues and my heart melts. "I love you," I whisper back. "Okay, I'm going to make love to you now, Angel. It will hurt a little, so let me know if it hurts too much," he says and leans down to kiss me. "I'll be gentle," he tells me. Haunted by the mantra "I'm nobody," I echoed these words in my mind, feeling as though my entire existence revolved around catering to the happiness of others. Despite having friends, a constant undercurrent of self-doubt lingered, as if I were an anchor holding them back. In the shadow of my brother Adam's fame with the renowned band Three Days Grace, I was the family's black sheep, an outcast in our town. My academic prowess and hardworking nature seemed to count for naught, dismissed by my father as failure. Even my past relationship revealed a cruel truth - I was a mere experiment for my ex-boyfriend's infidelity. While my brother Adam basked in the heroics of our town, I felt cast aside, deemed a potential threat to other teens and shunned like a contagious disease. Despite my pleas for help falling on deaf ears for years, my existence seemed insignificant, unnoticed. The reflection in the mirror, one last look before I just contemplated ending it all, reflected a soul weary of pleasing others at the cost of my own emotions. With black lipstick, I scrawled a poignant question on the mirror: "Are you happy?" In the final, desperate act, as I pushed myself to the brink, a rush of relief mingled with the pain.
