Blood magic is big business in the underworld. Kestrel is one of those unfortunate many dragged into this massive black-market of dark magic, an assassin for rent. That is, she was, until she found her ticket out: Corren, a wandering magician with an ulterior motive. These unlikely allies become involved in a political intrigue that has everything to do with Corren's past, and the future of a nation. (Sorry in advance for any weird wording/dialog/characterization or plot bunnies, this is still a very early draft that I'll be refining as I go. What is currently up is essentially a lightly revised first draft.) Thousands of years ago, Selandris was a prison island for people accused of witchcraft. Their descendants created a magical barrier that shielded them from the rest of the world. The lost princess is the only one to escape but when magic wielders threaten war on the home she has fled, Maylis must choose between freedom and duty. There is a spell that could end the conflict but will her conscience allow her to sacrifice so much? Complete at 62,690 words Background: I was bored and lonely, studying Creative Writing at university (2011-2014). I became obsessed with Lord of the Rings and wanted to create my own fantasy world. It's a lot smaller in scale, but maybe one day, I will revisit this and make it BIGGER.
