"I forget we're Gods, sometimes," Britain said idly, humming in thought as he flicked through his book in disinterest. "Gods compared to them, at least."
France didn't even have to look up from his magazine to the crumbling Empire to speak, merely giving him a disdainful snort. "You mean monsters," he corrected absently, turning the page, clearly bored.
Britain chuckled, the sound disfigured with disgust and contemptuous amusement, tossing his cigarette carelessly to the floor and putting it out with the heel of his boot. "Aren't they the same thing?"

There are men in our world that are precisely not that; men. The British Empire and France are only two of the many Countries that roam our Earth in the shape of a human, protecting their country and their people. However, they're certainly the only ones who seem to be struggling with the idea of moving forwards - into a future filled with new ideas and new technology.
When revolution stirs in the colonies of the British Empire, he turns to his long time rival France for support. And France, for once, is only too happy to comply - dealing with an unhinged Empire is hardly something on his bucket list - only to discover that not all change is bad. Sometimes it's necessary, sometimes even good, but to move forwards as predicted, one must take time to remember the past and all that they stand for.
Can they keep each other sane? Or will they send each other tumbling into a dark spiral of insanity and pain that only goes down?
