Entry for short story competition 3 An old woman attempts suicide one November evening in London. No doubt that she had a traumatic life, but why did she choose this day to end her life? Why end her life now that her troubles are over? Or is it over? Adding to the mystery is that two people find stacks of letters written by her supposedly dead husband, who died serving in the war. The thing is, the letters were written after the war. Amongst these questions, was her son, who supposedly died from illness ages ago. What really happened with this old lady? Is she who she seems to be?

Max is struggling, plain and simple. After dropping out of school two years ago to help his mom with the bills and losing his best friend, he's just kind of shut things out. With new step siblings that hate him before they've even met and a man that thinks he can just jump in and be his father, Max has had just about enough of everything. On top of all that he's starting up school again, and with these new fancy rich kids, Max feels even more suffocated and out of place then he did before. Will Max figure out his place or fall farther and farther into the background suffocating?
