Imagine if your childhood were to end at not a certain age, or a certain milestone in your life, but somewhere as mundane and unwanted as a construction site. Well, Crystal and Benny both learn at age twelve the harsh reality of leaving their childhood behind in such a place.

After they discover a mysterious box hiding in a construction site, their lives change forever. With only the cryptic message of 'Is Molly Home?' written on the outside, and the inside packed to the brim with rolls and rolls of cash, neither of them are sure of its' purpose or origin.

However, after making the tempting and understandable mistake of taking small amounts of money from the box each time it reappeared to help their struggling families and themselves, they learn the hard way about what the box was for, and who it belonged to. And most importantly, they learn what it's like to abandon your childhood and enter into a premature state of adulthood.

Coming of Age is about the tragic experiences some teenagers go through and many others are aware of. The story explores themes like identity, ambition, love, trauma, forgiveness, free will, and redemption. Sensitive subject matter like drug addiction, extreme poverty, abuse, and violence are touched on, but in an honest, non-exploitative way. The story is based on my experiences as a teenager dealing mental health issues and the people I knew. Writing is my way to raise awareness of the issues I went through. I want to speak to people who can relate to my story and bring understanding to those that don't.
