Away from the eyes of his foster father - who never seemed to notice him before his stint with vandalism - must  now deal with the standards being set by pinstriped teachers, and his new roommate being the resident asshole.  Will this really be the 'Safe Haven' that it was described in his pamphlet or will it turn out to only be a way paved to 'Purgatory'.
