Her eyes were oddly glowing in the night, like some sort of animal. "Who are you?" I whispered, taking a step forward. She cocked her head to one side as if she were confused, "You aren't supposed to talk to me" she replied, "you might get hurt." Mickey Warbury was an imaginative, yet fairly miserable twelve year old girl with an ever moving travel writer as her Mother. When they came to a nearly uninhabited town in Wales, Mickey decides it's high time for an adventure, and sets out to explore the land surrounding their temporary home. What she finds is far beyond what her imagination could have brought her- a little girl trapped in the basement of an old abandoned house, for reasons Mickey can't understand. This girl is unlike anyone Mickey has ever met, and a bond is quickly formed between them. Sadly, things aren't that simple, and Mickey uncovers secrets that will leave her haunted.

They told me the house was empty. That the boy I was supposed to care for wasn't real. Just a doll. Just a job. But then I heard things. Felt things. The whispers in the walls, the way the air shifted like someone was always watching me. I should be scared. I should leave. But there's something about him-something that keeps pulling me back. Maybe it's the loneliness in his voice. Or the way he lingers in the shadows, waiting for me to see him. All I know is... I don't think I want to run anymore.
