He was silent for a moment. I decided to get out of this embarrassing situation as fast as possible.

I gave him my back and walked away, but suddenly he spoke back.

The banging starts again but this time a lot louder. I can hear the girls screaming up stairs. I pick up my phone and dial 911. "Hello this is 911 what's your emergency?"
