17 year old Jackie  wakes after attempting suicide. It turns out Jackie has been in a coma for a 5 years now. She was surprised they didn't they didn't just let her go. Now she's missed out on her entire childhood and with no way of getting it back. Still trying to get her life pieces together, something strange happens. She discovers her abilities to shapeshift. Something had happened to her while in her coma and just as her life is finally gluing itself back together it all falls apart again. She's suddenly running from everything. No where to go and no one to trust. Until she meets Zane, who has the same abilities. And, it turns out there not the only ones. They find many more recruits creating the Shifters. Now there all learning  how to run, hide, and protect the earth from the The Takers.

They've lived with humans for seven years, wearing cloaks and keeping their eyes down to avoid unwanted attention. This worked fine, at least it did, until they literally bumped into Eliza, a girl their age. Luckily, their wonky powers shifted them into a creature that resembles a human, but it's bound to change eventually, and Eliza will learn the truth. And Eliza is the only friend they've had in a long time. Can the Shifter keep their origins a secret and stay in the only place that's ever felt like home? Or will everything slip through their fingers, just like it always has?
