Monday
"El, run!" John screams at me from outside the warehouse.
"Shit," I mutter to myself. They found us. I grab my jacket and purse and head to the back door.
I hear several different footsteps running towards me. Thankfully, adrenaline starts to kick in and I begin to run faster.
Just as I go to open the back door, it swings open. John is standing there in the door way, breathing heavily.
"Let's go," he says to me as he takes my hand. Together we run to his car. He takes the drivers seat and quickly locks the doors after I slide into the passenger side.
We speed out of the parking lot, but not quick enough. A black SUV is right on our ass.
"El, I need you to make it icy." John knows he's asking too much. He won't even look in my direction.
"There has to be another way. You could get hurt," I explain to him.
"I know you won't hurt me," he replies.
"I don't," I whisper.
"It's a chance I'm willing to take. It's a chance we need to take."
I take a deep breath and nod. I close my eyes and wait for my body temperature to drop rapidly. My blood turns icy cold and I feel power begin to surge within me.
When I open my eyes, I see the windshield frosted over and everything outside encased in ice. John glances at me.
"You okay?" He asks. I nod my head yes.
I look down at my hands and see them entirely frostbitten. I'm not worried, it will wear off soon.
"Did I hurt you?" I ask John.
"No," he replies with a smile. I feel a wave of relief wash over me.
I look behind us and see the SUV gone.
"We lost them," I say with a sigh of relief. We continue driving for a few more hours.
