Lightning is a Listener... well more like an ignorer because after being chosen by the second, (one of the seven gods of Kaena) he refused to listen to its voice after it claimed he was not a monster and instead had the potential to change the world for the better. However, with the ability to control weather, Lightning is well known for his temper that could cause catastrophic storms which can destroy a whole nation if prolonged, so he saw the second's words as lies.
Due to this he lived alone with his only friend, Mr. Cloud in the planes of Nimbus until he became curious about the god's silence and the disappearance of the other other six Listeners. His investigation leads him to the village of Raspgar where he meets a young woman named Rayla who wields a power staff called Defiance that could do almost anything.
Although they get off on the wrong foot, they both are drawn together in order to find a way to reseal Darkkan, the right hand of the false god, Yulis whom is hellbent on freeing his master from his prison. The key to stopping them is related to the disappearance of children all over the world and the answer to where they have gone resides within Darkkan's flower garden.
