lingered by his desk, my chest tight, my heart hammering in my ribs. "We shouldn't be... doing this," I whispered, my voice barely audible.
Mr. Gray leaned back slightly, the shadow of a frown crossing his face. "I know," he said, low and deliberate. "Every part of me knows it's wrong."
I swallowed hard, looking down at my hands. "Then why... why does it feel like I can't stay away?"
His eyes darkened as he stepped closer, close enough that I could feel the heat radiating off him. "Because it's not just desire, Jess," he murmured. "It's everything. And the harder we try to fight it... the stronger it gets."
I bit my lip, barely daring to meet his gaze. "I don't want to stop," I admitted.
