In the kingdom of Gosimuse, magic is told in fables and fairytales. But magic doesn't exist. Or, that's what the people were told. Take Avalon for example. Magic changed her life.
Avalon has lived on the streets her whole life, picking the pockets of the rich as they walk by to provide for the others in her group of orphaned street children. When the eldest of her "family" grows ill with the plague, Avalon, now in charge, must go to extreme levels to save her group from starvation and death.
King Nicolas is dying of the plague, but with no heir to the throne, his advisors search for a heir before it is too late. They invite many worthy girls, but none seem fitting to rule. Until Avalon breaks into the castle.
When she gets caught stealing from the royal treasury, Avalon knows that she will be sentenced to death by hanging. But the king thinks otherwise. He pardons her crime and choses her as his heir, moved by her intentions. In an instant, her life is changed.
Is Avalon ready to be a queen? Will she be able to save her family? Can she save the kingdom from a seemingly inevitable war with the neighboring kingdom? Who is the strange man she sees in the garden at night? Will she be successful in the rise from the bottom to the top?

My mother says my endless curiosity and my need to venture is a curse.
