I was drowning. I knew that. I also knew that the hands around my throat, pushing me deeper into the river water was the cause. What I didn't know was who was drowning me and why. It hurt thinking. It hurt to do anything right now. But I still screamed under the cold water and pushed the hands away as hard as I could. It didn't have much effect. I fought and fought, but I was getting weaker, and colder. The pain was overbearing. I couldn't breathe. "Is she breathing?" a male voice asked. It didn't sound familiar at all, so it was probably a police officer or medic. Then again, nothing sounded familiar right now. I could hear screaming and crying all around me. I felt soaking wet and hot at the same time, which I didn't think was possible and I could feel someone gently shaking me. "Uggggnnnnnmmm," I groaned. "She's alive! Come on kid, wake up," another man exclaimed. "Nooooooooooo," I groaned again. I felt so tired, I just wanted to go back to sleep, but whoever was shaking me wouldn't stop. My eyes slowly opened, squinting at the bright lights that were shining all around me. Two men were hovering over me and they weren't who I thought they would be.

It was dark and I was all alone I couldn't see anything, not even my hands in front of me. I felt all sick like I had a cold. " Where am I ? " I asked. " Your in your my mind ? " a voice replied. Then all of a sudden I felt a sharp pain in my chest. I woke up. I was in a white room with like 1,000,000 bright light on me. It hurt a lot. There were cords tied up to me and I didn't know where I was.

No one stopped to look. No one glanced in the alley I cried in. I was tired of this place, so tired of the endless days that stretched out before me. The emptiness in my heart was eating me alive, with no end in sight. My own darkness was swallowing me whole and leaving nothing alive. The tears froze on my bright red cheeks. I was tired of feeling so broken, but most of all I was tired of being so alone. I pulled out the cold heavy weapon from my coat and stared at it. After he removed the single bullet from my pistol, he handed it back to me, and left. I followed the man at a distance back to his apartment. He knew that I had followed him and waited at the door to let me in. For reasons I cannot explain I entered his tiny apartment. I fell asleep at the table playing with the bullet and woke up to my alarm the following morning. There was a pillow beneath my head, a blanket over my shoulders, and a note that read: "Dear Stranger..."

'Lily.' A soft voice said from somewhere in the dark. My head was fuzzy and my body discontented from my brain. But the main thing was I felt no pain. I felt relief. I wasn't in the rubble anymore. I could hear beeps and distant voices. I knew I was safe in hospital. 'Lily, open your eyes.' I knew that voice. A happiness crept over me. 'Dan?' I tried to say but barely a sound left my dry mouth. 'Hey sleepy head.' It took far too much effort to do as I was told, but I eventually opened my eyes to see his beautiful face near mine. He was lying beside me in a hospital bed. The window behind him was dark. I wondered what time or what day it even was. I then noticed one of his hands was stroking my face and the other holding mine. 'You know how to scare me.' He laughed sourly. 'Sorry.' I whispered. 'De ja vu.' I told him. It was just like the time is woken up in hospital all those years ago with Dan beside me. I had so many questions but no brain capacity to ask just yet. I wanted to go back to sleep. And that's what I did.
