Captain Maximus Devereaux of the Ocean's Knave, a pirate ship that instills fear in the minds of all who hear about it, has dedicated his life to being a pirate. He docks at kingdoms only long enough to get his fix from a harlot while his crew robs from everyone they can. When the job is finished, they set sail for the next port.

But the moment they dock at the kingdom of Tyrnell, everything changes. When Devereaux's crew returns, he sets sail as quickly as possible to avoid being caught. Only when they're a good distance away does he realize that his men have kidnapped someone dangerous.

Princess Samara doesn't understand why the pirates are holding her in their ship. Nor does she grasp the reasoning behind Captain Devereaux's resolve to keep her with him in his quarters. Determined to get off the ship and stay out of trouble, Samara keeps her distance from Captain Devereaux. But it seems that he can't keep his distance from her, not matter how hard he tries.
