Everyone knows Katniss. Everyone knows Peeta. Everyone knows Finnick and Annie and Prim and Gale and Johanna and Plutarch and Snow and Effie and Cinna. But no one knows Fiore.

Fiore is a sixteen year old girl living in District 9 of Panem. Everyone knows Katniss's story, but no one knows Fiore's story. Fiore was not Reaped, she did not compete in the Games, she did not die or emerge the Victor. All she did was live her life in District 9, where gentle winds carry the sweet, rustic smell of grain across the plains and fields and valleys of Nine. In the fields, where the life-giving grass grows, a story unfolds about a flower and the changes she goes through as she grows up among the Capitol and it's Districts...

And, of course, The Hunger Games.

Please read Windgrass' sister story, The Tragic Tale of Fatin Blackstone, and let me know what you think! I hope you enjoy it!

(REUPLOADED - deleted at 3k reads) Like all children in his world, 14-year-old Finnick Odair had the chance of being chosen for the Hunger Games. In a pool stock full of names, he was just as vulnerable as anyone from the ages of 12-18. And in District Four, which often tends to produce Career tributes, its residents could only hope that this year's pair would fall under that description. On Reaping day, a 14-year-old boy's name is called. A name that is often whispered down the hallways of the local high school, giggled at, fawned over. The gasps that arose afterwards were monumental. Him, of all people? It couldn't be, could it? Yet it was. At age 14, Finnick Odair was called forth to be a tribute in the 65th annual Hunger Games. Many stood there and thought, "He's just a pretty face. How could he possibly bring home the victor's crown?" However, some people are far more than a pretty face. In fact, it's even said that those with such captivating allure are most often the ones that can catch you off guard and bring you to your knees. __________________________ Excerpt: ❝25, 24, 23...❞ I can do this. I have the skills, the desire--I can win. It's possible. I know it's possible. The odds may be against me, against all of us, but one of us has to win. ❝15, 14, 13...❞ So to everyone in Four watching; to my mom, dad, and Annie Cresta, I'm making a promise to you. ❝7, 6, 5, 4...❞ Whatever happens here, I will fight like hell to come back home, ❝3, 2, 1...❞ I promise you. 75 parts Ongoing

In a Panem that followed a history different from what we know. In such a world, tributes are pulled from the same pool, and so in addition to being reaped, sometimes you just know you don't have a chance; two boys from District 2 would plow through the rest, and all you can do is cry. ---------------------------------------------------------- She lived in 12 for generations of her family but not in the filth, nor was she in a family of victors. No. She was the child of peacekeepers, she was trained to fight, special schools for them, and even her name only being once in the reaping bowl as she grew no matter what she did. People like her would be 12's future peacekeepers, raised and trained on site for generations of their families to be sure they know all there is to know about the district they'll keep in check. ---------------------------------------------------------- She grew up in 12, in the poorest part of 12. She'd hunt for her family with her friend and would exchange some wild game with the on and off boyfriend she had, son of the baker. Her life was hard. And so she watched with envy those kids that got fed for nothing, taught to handle themselves so that in the future they could control them. ------------------------------------------------------- How will life turn out if two of these people get to meet under different lights, in the 74th arena of the Hunger Games?
