A faint memory. An unbroken promise. After her father's lynching, Elizabeth Annabelle Freeman stopped trusting white people. Her mother made sure of it. Being the one of the only black students in an all-white high school, Elizabeth dealt with verbal and physical abuse from the other white students. But a faint memory haunted her, one she couldn't quite put her finger on. While walking in the halls, she saw him. Him. It was his fault, and Elizabeth was willing to do just about anything to get revenge on the boy who brought about her father's death. ___________________________________________ Dilyn Thomas Blake lived well. Somehow his father, in the midst of the Depression, managed to save enough money to support his family. But his father despised him. He looked down on Dilyn as if he were less than human. Dilyn vied for approval and attention, but never got it. Dilyn was one of many white students at a high school with only a few black ones. There, he was popular. He was all the girls would talk about. But Dilyn was a nerd, a booklover at heart. He was an amazing athlete, always the best player, but incredibly smart as well. Needed help with your homework? Dilyn was the guy. While talking in the hallway, he caught her looking at him. Her. It was all her fault. Dilyn would do just about anything to get revenge on the girl who caused his father's love for him to cease.

|"Sometimes the heart knows things the mind could never explain." -Ranjeet| We are teenagers. We have gone through hell and back. Listen to the stories we have to tell. Spoiler alert: we get broken in the end. But our stories come from our heart. Listen to our heartbeat. Elizabeth and Andrew were good friends up until high school. They drifted away, and rarely spoke to each other. During the last few months of high school, Elizabeth and her four friends get caught in drama. This includes crushes, breakups, makeups, bullies, and much more. Elizabeth has to keep them together and ignore her longing crush on a plain and heartbroken guy. But maybe something could distract her from all that. Maybe that distraction's name is Blake. Warning: READ AT YOUR OWN RISK! This story contains many plot holes, cliche moments, and just things that don't make any sense. (And editing would be a nightmare. I can't do it myself. I've officially given up on this story.) #569 in Teen Fiction on April 9, 2016 |Added to @weareteenqueens "High School Highlights" reading list!| |Entered in the #W.SAwards for 2016 "Most Favorited Book!"| #Wattys2016 #WriteForYou #MyYouth #weareteenqueens
