The police found her body washed up at Ryker Lake, pale, lifeless, and limp.

They also found her Walkman, the cassette tape still inside. 

Ms. Diggs wanted nothing to do with it, so she gave it to me since Shannon and I were best friends.

It remained in the drawer of my nightstand until I gathered the courage to listen to it.
