September 1969, Bucharest, Romania. Two miles east from the old town, flourishes a well-settled gypsy community artificially built by the communist government. "Drag," is not a gypsy, but somehow ends up in the eclectic neighborhood, raised by his grandparents, the only "white-people" living in the area. He starts his journey with his parents out of his life and being breastfed by a gypsy woman, while his grandfather "Papi" makes friends with the gypsies and embraces their culture peppered with dance, music, laughter and crime.
