Whitney and her elder intelligent brother Benedick and her young 2 year old sister Baylie are devastated when they find out their parents died in the car crash that left Whitney with a spinal disorder and that they are orphans. After Benedick and Baylie visited Whitney in the hospital a week after the accident, a social worker comes and talks to the three children.
