The Bonded are rare, almost mythical beings in the world of Nirotu. Connected by magic to either a unicorn or a pegasus and gifted with the ability to speak to their Bond Partners, legends state that there can only be five Bonded pairs walking the earth at one time.
On the eve of her eighteenth birthday, Mira Pierce is struck down by a sudden and mysterious illness. Despite the best efforts of her mother and the village Healer, Mira's illness does not improve.
