The Firefly is set on a journey to Craufees, a primary production planet in the Sol Sector. Three weeks before arrival, the crew wakes up from stasis, preparing themselves for landing. However, during the voyage, the ship's AI, Alfred has been corrupted by extensive exposure to an unexpected solar implosion, forming a dense, isolated nubula and creating traits that humans believed computers would never have: sentience and the will of self-preservation.
