I placed my hand on the doorknob, jumping slightly as it swung open on its own accord. That was strange; my mother was a careful woman--she would never leave the door unlocked.

Chalking it down to the affects of her illness, I pushed open the door and stifled a gasp when a suffocating atmosphere hit me hard. I choked slightly, my hand covering my mouth as inky blackness obscured my vision.

A sliver of moonlight pierced through and that was when I saw the dark silhouette that would haunt my nightmares forever. Standing in the shadows of the canopy covering the bed the familiar all-black attire made my heart stop in my chest.

Caius.

When a great tragedy brings two powerful kingdoms to war, what is a Crown Princess to do when she's on the losing side? Why, seek out the help of a secluded, fantasy kingdom, of course.

But that isn't as easy as it sounds...

Princess Astra is fighting a losing battle, both within herself, her country and her war. The ruler of this fantasy kingdom--Queen Faylinn--isn't quite making it any easier either, but when the dire need for Xealite arises Astra will have to put aside her pride to secure a chance of victory for her country.

Magic, friendship and war will throw two girls away from their normal lives and into an adventure of a lifetime.

[ magic, romance and madness. ] Everyone knew that a romance between a guardian and their protégé always ended in tragedy - yet they risked it. One day, I read that in real-life fairy tales, the princess sometimes needs to befriend the dragon and kill the prince, perhaps not to the most extreme extent, considering the prince's utility. (*Wink*). Twenty years had passed since the demise of the last living descendant bearing the bloodline of a potent family within the mystical realm. Individuals who possessed magic more formidable than anyone could have fathomed and that very magic could be pilfered if they were to meet an untimely end-a rumour ignited like wildfire. Word began to spread about the sole surviving member of the Lysion family, the last vestige of a lineage renowned for their blessings from the gods (or, as some argue, their curses), once no more than bedtime tales for children. Two decades earlier, a game of hide and seek unfolded that culminated in the death of the final Lysion at the hands of Oldo Blake, a formidable figure in the annals of history. Or so the story goes. An obscure girl. A concealed secret. A relentless pursuit. With a motley crew of bewildering Other Siders on her trail and an absolute dearth of knowledge on how to harness her precious magic, Rosélina Johnson's life transformed from that of an inconspicuous university student to that of a fugitive in the mystic realm, utterly unprepared for what lay ahead.

36 parts Complete

Alera lost her mother early in life and was raised by a strict king for a father and the many nursemaids who crossed themselves before touching her. It wasn't until she was of marrying age that she learned why the people feared her. She was canny... like her forest mother. Canny and feared to be fae. The only person besides her father who didn't seem to fear her was the handsome stable boy. He knew what she was and didn't cross himself before letting his hands touch hers longer than needed for helping her to her mount. And on her 18th birthday, neither could deny the bond that dragged them together. But her father had her sold off to make an advantageous match with the neighboring king's sullen and cruel son. Even a kingdom over, the whispers of the canny princess the people feared as fae reached royal ears. But they thought to use her to their advantage...to put fear in their own people's hearts and make them bend the knee. Now with the kingdom at war with the prince she would have married, Alera must save the people who feared her from an unspeakable fate brought to their door by the sullen prince wielding a dark unknown power. -------------------- Cover by Tina Glasneck ©2022 M.Dalto Published to Wattpad 06.01.2022 Completed 03/30/2023
