In 1933 Germany, Adeline Sommer and Esther Goldberg are the best of friends. One little problem though- Esther is Jewish. Adeline doesn't care, but it seems as if the rest of the world does. It soon becomes apparent that Berlin is no longer safe for Esther, and that their friendship is actually endangering Adeline's life. As if fighting for their friendship wasn't hard enough already, it seems nearly impossible when a protective Nazi officer enters the scene. He'll do anything to keep Adeline safe, and that means either destroying her friendship with Esther or putting his own life on the line.
