Once upon a time, in the little town of Carrel, there lived a girl named Kami. She was fourteen, an only child, and lived with her mother. Every day after school Kami would go out into the woods behind her house. She would run down a narrow path until she reached a tall yellow sign that said "BEWARE PRIVATE PROPERTY". What was behind the sign? She didn't know, but she dreamed of what could be on the other side. Her most often dream was a recent one. She imagined a beautiful glimmering waterfall that ran into a river, which would go on for miles and miles. There would be beautiful scenery, and wild animals. But Kami knew this was only a dream. She planned on sneaking out one day, and crossing the invisible line between her property, and some random persons land, but she didn't know when. She walked home dreaming about the waterfall, and wild animals that roamed the land behind the tall yellow sign.
Kami woke up the next morning to her mother saying "Wake up darling it's time for school". "Today's the day, I am going to go see what's behind that sign." Kami whispered to herself. She got out of bed, got some comfy clothes on, and went downstairs for breakfast. "Good morning honey. Are pancakes alright?" her mom said with a smile. "Yeah sounds great mom." Kami knew pancakes would fill her up. She would be full until dinner if she ate enough. Kami ate three huge pancakes and said goodbye to her mother. She was on her way out the door when her mom said "Hold on, you need your lunch. Why are you in such a rush to get out of here"? "I'm not in a rush. I just need to go see Jack, we're going to study in the library for the history test". Jack had been Kami's best friend since second grade, they did everything together, until he started ignoring her and hanging out with other people. Kami was still debating whether she should tell, or ask Jack to come along. Her mother responded after a moment of thought. "Ok then, see you after school". "Bye mom". "Bye".
