Ellen "Nell" Monroe, though young, knows better than most the bitter, numbing taste of depression. Her shame forces her to hide her pain from those around her, even as she spirals further and faster towards suicide. She begins to engage in activities she would have never pictured herself doing, with people whose mere appearances once frightened her.
