No one praises me for keeping the demons you dream up out. The fear that lurks every corner but nothing is there, that was me saving your sorry soul from being devoured by a creature of unholy desires.
But honestly, who needs praising. All I am is a figment of your imagination. Little mortal children sometimes see me, but when they try to explain it to their guardians, it seems surreal. That is my disguise.
And honestly, I am the only one who protects this world. There is only one, and when that one dies, another is thrown into the mess knowing nothing and everything.
Can't be that bad? You thought wrong. If I stopped protecting, you wouldn't live past the next hour. Mortals need to learn who really is saving them. There are gods, yes, but they do nothing but sit on a throne and accept mortal offerings.
