On a futuristic planet in the city of New Ornath, Velma Holt works as a homicide detective with her partner Lance Walker. When the two begin to investigate what seems to be an open and shut case, they discover that the body is the victim of time theft- stealing years of someone's life and giving them to someone else. The case is reassigned to the time department and a suspect is swiftly arrested, but Velma isn't convinced he's the true killer. When she begins work on another case, she realizes that the two murders may be related. Convincing the police department of the two case's relation is another thing entirely, and as she continues the investigation, Velma realizes that the crime conspiracy is big enough to affect the whole city- and it's up to her to put a stop to it.

IMPORTANT NOTICE, PLEASE READ!: Though this story will remain up, it is not a polished product I'm all too proud of. Someday, some of the book's aspects may change; plot, some characters, etc. Think of this like a first draft, and I'm working on the not-first-draft. :D) Thank you so much for bearing with me, and I hope you enjoy I Am Not A Robot as it is, and as it will be! _____________ Bolts. The new-age phrase for robots. You may think that robots that can think for themselves is a bad idea. Well, so does the Government. Nobody knows the exact year. Or how long robots have been banned on punishment of death. All anybody knows is smoke, acid rain, and metal. And nobody thinks anything of it. Robots with minds as alive as yours being murdered in the slowest way possible? Normal. There are no uprisings. There are no rebellions. As far as everyday people go, the world is perfectly fine. As long as there are no robots. Because if there are, it's a kangaroo court on their fate. Aaran Sozos has spent the majority of her young life accused of being a robot. And as I'm sure you're aware, reader, if people call you something enough, you start to believe it. But when a classmate calls upon her help to find a missing brother, they need to search outside of the city. A city that is suspended above the earth. That is inhabited by robots. All I can tell you now is that they're doing a better job of keeping the mother nature happy than we ever could. But keep in mind, mother nature doesn't mind murder, either.

The Untouchables booby-trapped the Earth with artifacts believed to be creations of Earth's early civilizations. These machines of destruction are responsible for the blazing heat that is incrementally destroying the Earth. She needs to figure out if Merc knows where the machines are so she can shut them down. Merc in turn, needs to stop Laura from finding the machines to keep Earth on its path to ruination. They are more powerful than they are letting on, and have no qualms about killing the other.

Elodie's life changes at the turn of a doorknob when she is forced into joining a secret organization that claims to be protecting the Earth from aliens. But with every step she takes, she finds the organization, or the facility, as they call it, becoming more and more suspicious. When a mysterious death occurs, revealing a well-concealed secret, things quickly go downhill as humanity's future is placed on the shoulders of a single gaggle of teenagers. *** I hear a sigh from the other side of the door, "Miss. Chaucer, you have a wonderful opportunity here, are you going to take it or not?" Now, I am seriously confused, "Opportunity?" She takes advantage of my befuddled state and shoves the door open. Shit. The corners of her mouth pull up, and it's so unnatural, it takes me a moment to realize she's smiling. Major plastic surgery? Probably. Click. Did she just lock the door? She locked the door! I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on. So, call me stupid, but I sit down. "I am from a space organization that protects civilians from . . . outside threats." *** Beautiful cover made by @mahana258!
