Do you really want to be known as that emotionally damaged girl who watched her mother get killed?
Of course not.
So she changed her reputation into being a slut.
It didn't help that as growing up as a fat child was bad enough so she stopped eating.
I mean that's the only way to get guys to notice you right? To be 100% skinny without and ounce of fat?
That backfired after a couple of years after she passes out while she was with her 'friend' and was admitted into an anorexic rehab facilitation.
She had enough of people never believing what she said so she just didn't say anything at all.
Now, why the hell did the new guy seem to be intrigued by her?
She learns one thing after this,
Never underestimate fate.
